Engagement Basket

5 Feb

One of our friends got engaged recently and her fiancé was sweet enough to ask all of her best friends to go to Jacksonville to surprise her and celebrate with them on the night of the engagement {take notes boys..}. We of course wanted to bring a present to say congratulations and decided on a cute and practical engagement basket. We have made plenty of baskets in the past for bridal showers, but never one for an engagement. It was a little difficult at first because we immediately thought of items that started with her soon-to-be initial and items that said “mrs” {like these Kate Spade earrings} but decided against them all because that doesn’t really go with an engagement. We then switched our focus to the ring and what’s essential for wedding planning.
1. Bridal magazine – the Knot
2. Bridal magazine – Martha Stewart
3. Bottle of champagne {to celebrate}
4. Diamond ring bottle stop
5. The Knot Book of Wedding Lists {aka wedding bible}
6. Engagement card
7. Nail polish {to make sure her nails are always looking perfect as she shows off her new rock–we chose the Essie Bridal Collection because we’re big into details. Check the names of the colors below}
8. Ring holder
9. Jewelry cleaner {to keep the ring sparkling}
10.A picture frame {for their favorite engagement picture}
We then crafted a “Congrats” banner, purchased a basket from Michael’s, and added some pretty tissue paper.

If you don’t like any of those ideas, just get them a Starbucks gift card. The majority of pictures on instagram are of Starbucks cups anyway {yepp, we’re guilty too!}

What We Wrapped

19 Nov

We’ve been hearing a lot of people talking about how the Christmas season gets earlier and earlier each year. This year it seemed like Halloween wasn’t even over before the Christmas decorations started filling the shelves in Target, Michael’s, and the like. It used to be that Christmas decorations went up the day after Thanksgiving, but that’s not the case anymore. Poor little Thanksgiving was basically skipped over completely this year {proven by the fact that we were looking for decorations a couple of weeks ago in Target and they directed us to one little end cap of turkey tablecloths and napkins.} We listen to these people complain about Christmas and two things cross our minds:

1. WHY ARE YOU NOT EXCITED??  Christmas time is the greatest time of the year! We love everything about it. The snowflakes, the sparkles, the decorating of the tree, cute Christmas pjs, the cooler weather, the cookie making, the present buying, and most importantly, the present wrapping. Any extension of the most wonderful time of the year is definitely okay by us.

2. THANKS FOR FINALLY CATCHING UP! You see, in our family, Christmas lists are due in August. Yepp, you heard us right.. AUGUST! We used to think mom was pretty cray making us turn them in that early, but it’s actually really smart. We usually forget about what we put on our list by the time Dec 25th rolls around, so we’re genuilly surprised when we unwrap it Christmas morning. Plus, we get more for our money because mom knows the weekend of every friends and family sale {Tory, Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, Saks, Lord and Taylor…} so she ends up being able to buy more with her allotted budget for each of us. Another plus is that all of our Christmas shopping is usually done by the end of November, so we have plenty of time to bask in everything Christmas {see #1 above} without having to be rushing around trying to think of what to buy our loved ones. Needless to say, we’ve got Christmas on the brain for pretty much half the year.

We’re almost done with all of our Christmas shopping this year and have been getting lots of OMGs when we tell people that. This reaction is usually followed by a heavy sign and the words “I don’t know what I’m getting anybodyyyyy.” That’s where we come in. We don’t want to toot our own horns, but we’re pretty good at buying presents. We always put a lot of thought into our gift giving and figured it’s our duty to share our ideas with our loyal readers. We will be delivering to you a “What We Wrapped” post every few days starting Black Friday {it just seemed appropriate!} If you want some ideas for a certain “type” of person (ie. the wine lover, the sorority girl, the sports fanatic) then drop us a comment here or send us an idea to our email address

Disclaimer: the majority of these things aren’t things that we actually bought this year. Some we bought in the past and some we just think would make really great gifts. We couldn’t post the majority of our actual gifts, because everyone we really, really love reads our blog and we don’t want to spoil the surprise!
