Valentine’s Day Treats

We’ve been running around like crazy picking our outfits and getting everything set for Fashion Week! We haven’t really been focused on anything except our trip to New York, but still have a special little section of our brain that’s thinking about Valentine’s Day. We love Valentine’s Day! I mean, how could you not? It’s all flowers and hearts and glitter and LOVE. We LOVE love. And although it pains us to not be home this weekend crafting heart shaped things and preparing our pink and red baked goods, we think Fashion Week will more than make up for it. With that being said, we couldn’t help but search the internet for fun Valentine’s Day recipes. Hopefully we won’t be too exhausted when we get home on Tuesday to whip up a few holiday treats for you, but in the meantime, we hope you’ll be okay with our Valentine’s Day Treat Inspiration. It’s just one week away! So here are some some sweet treats to help you figure out what to make for your Valentine!

Engagement Basket

One of our friends got engaged recently and her fiancé was sweet enough to ask all of her best friends to go to Jacksonville to surprise her and celebrate with them on the night of the engagement {take notes boys..}. We of course wanted to bring a present to say congratulations and decided on a cute and practical engagement basket. We have made plenty of baskets in the past for bridal showers, but never one for an engagement. It was a little difficult at first because we immediately thought of items that started with her soon-to-be initial and items that said “mrs” {like these Kate Spade earrings} but decided against them all because that doesn’t really go with an engagement. We then switched our focus to the ring and what’s essential for wedding planning.

We then crafted a “Congrats” banner, purchased a basket from Michael’s, and added some pretty tissue paper.

BBQ Beer Chicken

We both love pulled pork, so why not pulled chicken? When we stumbled across this recipe via Pinterest {of course!} it was a must try.This was a great addition to our Super Bowl menu yesterday. This recipe makes a lot, so it is great to have as leftovers the next day, or make for a tailgating event with lots of your friends.

BBQ Beer Chicken in the crockpot:

What you’ll need:

3 pounds boneless, skinless fresh chicken breasts (6 large)
1 tbsp onion powder
1 tbsp paprika
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 cup beer {any kind you like} We used a dark beer and the flavor was great!
4 cups (32 ounces) of barbecue sauce {any kind you like} We used Jack Daniels BBQ sauce which is our favorite.

Directions:

1. Add all the ingredients, aside from the chicken, to the crockpot and combine.
2. Add the chicken to the crockpot. Make sure to submerge the chicken into the sauce so it’s covered.
3. Set your crockpot to low for 6 hours.
4. After 6 hours, shred the chicken and then add it back to the sauce in the crockpot. Let the shredded chicken sit for about 15 or so minutes so the shredded chicken absorbs the sauce.
5. Serve on hamburger buns and top with coleslaw or any other topping desired!

Pulled chicken sandwich

*Note*
The chicken may take longer or shorter than 6 hours depending on the size of your crockpot. After 4 hours, check the chicken to see if it is ready to be shredded.

1. The 1920s

Recently we had our annual work party and this year was a  Roaring 20s theme. We didn’t go all out with our outfits but had so much fun making these fun headbands and dancing the night away!

2. Clarisonic

Our mom got us each a Clarisonic for Christmas and we were instantly obsessed. We gotta be honest, we weren’t the best about washing our faces , but this little machine has forced us into a routine. We’ve been using them every couple of days and saw results immediately. It’s like a mini facial and the best thing is it takes just 60 seconds.20130115-114856.jpg

3. Boston Terrier Wrapping

We saw this Boston Terrier gift wrap at Target and freaked out! We’ve got a Boston in the family and couldn’t stop ourselves from stocking up on these fun gift bags, wrapping paper, and tags.

4. Michael Kors turquoise watch

We stumbled across this Michael Kors watch on pinterest and needed it. After discovering it was no longer available anywhere, we made it our life’s mission to have it. After months of eBay stalking, we finally found one and won it!

Turkey Chili

Crockpots are awesome. Why you ask? The fact that you can throw ingredients into one pot and let it cook all day with hardly any effort is a glorious thing! Your house will smell delicious and the way that you can go about your day without being in the kitchen slaving away is an added bonus.

This delicious chili is great paired with corn bread and any toppings you feel your chili deserves.

Turkey Chili: {Makes 6-8 servings}

Ingredients:

1 pound lean ground turkey
1 small onion chopped
1 can (28 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
1 can (15 ounces) chickpeas, rinsed and drained
1 can (15 ounces) kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 can (15 ounces) black beans, rinsed and drained
1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
1 can (4 ounces) diced miled green chilies
1 to 2 tablespoons chili powder

Directions:

1. Cook and stir turkey and onion in a medium skillet over medium to high heat until turkey is no longer pink. Drain and discard fat.

2. Transfer cooked turkey and onion mixture into your crockpot.

3. Add all remaining ingredients and mix well.

4. Cover and cook on high 6-8 hours.
